Maha Shivaratri is celebrated by each and every Hindu around the world, in the devotion of Lord Shiva. Maha Shivaratri means “Great Night of Lord Shiva who saved this entire Universe by gulping poison which emerged from the ocean during Samudra Manthan and held the poison in his throat. Due to which his throat turned into blue and was given the name as Neelakantha” it is observed once in a year before the arrival of the spring season in the month of maagha 13th night & 14th day according to Hindu calendar.
It’s celebrated by all the devotees of Lord Shiva on this auspicious day by chanting prayers, fasting on the new moon day in the month of maagha as per the Hindu calendar, offering special prayers to Shiv lingam by cleaning with water & milk later Shiv Lingam is decorated with Bilva leaves along with seasonal flowers.
Lord Shiva is always followed by Pramadha Gaṇas, Ganas are the attendants of Lord Shiva, and the most important of them are Nandi, Trishul, Damaru, Bhringi, Virabhadra and Chandesvara.
