Vinayaka Chaturthi is an annual celebration which is celebrated on the eve of the birth of Lord Vinayaka, whose head is replaced by an elephant-head son of Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva. He is worshipped as the lord of beginnings and also the lord of removing all the obstacles; Lord Vinayaka is the symbol of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune.
Vinayaka Chaturthi is also known as Ganesh Chaturthi which is celebrated as first festival among of all Hindu Gods according to Hindu calendar and this festival is celebrated by all the family members at home, by people at their places of work and in public places in groups. The group celebration involves installing Lord Ganesha idols in pandals (temporary shrines) and the entire group worship Lord Ganesha for 11 days. At the end of the 11th day the idols are immersed in a large body of water such as the sea, river or a lake. This festival is celebrated throughout India with a great devotion especially in Maharashtra, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and world wide.
